Spend a morning with Hillsborough craftsman Elia Bizzarri, a professional Windsor chairmaker who uses handtools to create the continuous-arm chairs. Learn about the history of Windsor chairs, the materials used to make the chairs, and about the handtools Elia uses. Elia apprenticed for Curtis Buchanan when he was 17 years old, and has worked with other master woodworkers, including the carpenters at Colonial Williamsburg. He has been featured on Roy Underhill’s The Woodwright’s School, and teaches classes there and all over the country.
After a morning with Elia, pick up lunch at the delicious Hillsborough BBQ Company. Choose from BBQ, ribs, chicken, turkey and brisket cooked the 'old fashioned' way - low and slow over hickory and oak coals. Take your lunch next door to Mystery Brewing Company, and enjoy a private tour of the brewery and a beer. Mystery rotates a palette of different styles of beer that changes throughout the year, including (in the summer months), a Belgian Blonde, a West Coast IPA, a Rye Saison and a Foreign Extra Stout.
