Dr. Sheryl Joyner
Dr. Sheryl Joyner is a Florida native. She has been practicing at Alliance Medical Ministry since the doors opened in 2003. Prior to working at Alliance, Dr. Joyner worked in Johnston County at Benson Area Medical Center for nine years. Dr. Joyner earned her Bachelor of Arts from Randolph Macon Woman's College and her medical degree from The University of Miami. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill in 1992. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and has a special interest in management of chronic diseases and diabetes prevention. She is married to Dr. Walton Joyner, an ophthalmologist in private practice and a volunteer at Alliance, seeing Alliance patients in his office and in the Alliance Diabetes Eye Clinic. Dr. Joyner has three children and enjoys spending time with her family.
Josh McConaghay is a Pennsylvania native who received a BS degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University in 2003. He received a Master’s degree in Spanish Language Education in 2011, and a BSN in 2012, both from Florida State University. He completed his nurse practitioner training at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2017.
Josh has a passion for working and helping with Spanish-speaking patients. Prior to joining Alliance’s medical team, Josh worked in the Emergency Department, where he found that any of the reasons patients were there were preventable and could be avoided with good primary care and education. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to provide care to Spanish-speaking patients. I want to create partnerships with patients to allow them to be proactive and prevent health problems before they begin.”
Josh is married and as three boys, ages 5, 3 and 4 months. He enjoys spending time with his family, hiking outdoors, exercising, playing the guitar and mandolin, and cheering for Philadelphia sports teams.
