Dr. Netra Thakur was born in England, but has lived in lots of places including Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. She kept making her way down South and landed here, in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2016. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, before going on to get her medical doctorate from Jefferson Medical College. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia in 1996. She additionally earned her Masters of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health in 1998. She is board certified in Family Medicine.

Dr. Thakur officially came on staff in July 2020. Prior to practicing medicine at AMM, she worked at several medical practices, including MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore for twelve years. She served as the Associate Residency Director for her last 4 years there. Dr. Thakur says she is so grateful for all the patients she has been able to meet in the various cities she’s worked in; all of the stories and lives they have shared have stayed with her over the years.

Dr. Thakur’s husband works as a gastroenterologist in Raleigh and they have two teenage boys (16 and 14) and a “diva” dog named Emmy. She enjoys yoga, hiking, cooking and baking (especially trying new recipes!), and loves “old school” music.
