NC Medicaid Expansion Progress
AMM is thrilled that hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians will now receive health care through Medicaid. This will save lives. This will cover North Carolinians with an income up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level.
What does that mean? Eligibility is determined by annual income and size of household. For a single adult the threshold is for those earning $20,120 or less. The income levels increases with the number of household members. A couple of really important things to know:

  • In Wake County, an estimated 70,000 residents will not be eligible for Medicaid. These will be the patients of AMM. Many people will toggle between being eligible and not. Our goal will be to take care of our uninsured patients and to help those in limbo.
  • AMM will not be a Medicaid provider as we feel our Mission calls on us to serve the uninsured and be a leading safety net clinic.
  • Medicaid will only impact 7% of our AMM patients as most will not qualify. The average AMM patient lives at 158% of the FPL and supports a family of 3 on just $39,000. Too much income for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health insurance.

At recent Medicaid event at Martin Street Baptist Church, Gov. Roy Cooper said: “Our goal was simple here in North Carolina — to get people health insurance so that they can get the health care that they need. And the message is this: North Carolina Medicaid is now for more people."

Raised Beds!
We have completed the restoration of the 8 raised beds in our garden, in collaboration with Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. We are excited to have these beds, which are higher and easier to access, to be used by patients this spring. Stay tuned for photos of the beautiful produce grown by patients from these beds!
